€2 million in worn and torn banknotes successfully exchanged

President Tufan Erhürman announced on Thursday that worn and torn euro banknotes amounting to a total of €2,000,000, which had accumulated in the country over the years, have been successfully exchanged for new banknotes under the coordination of the Technical Committee on Economic and Commercial Matters.

The statement by President Erhürman reads as follows:

“Worn and torn euro banknotes amounting to a total of €2,000,000, which had accumulated in our country over the years, have been successfully exchanged for new banknotes under the coordination of the Technical Committee on Economic and Commercial Matters.

The process, which was carried out meticulously in three stages to address this issue that had remained unresolved for years, has been completed thanks to the cooperation of the Turkish Cypriot and Greek Cypriot co-chairs of the Committee, the contributions of our Central Bank, and the dedicated efforts of Cooperative Central Bank officials who carried out the process in the field, as well as the members of the Technical Committee.

I would like to thank everyone who contributed, especially the Committee co-chairs and members.”
