The meeting between President Tufan Erhürman and Greek Cypriot Leader Nikos Christodoulides has concluded
The meeting between President Tufan Erhürman and Greek Cypriot Leader Nikos Christodoulides, held on Monday and lasting 1 hour and 20 minutes, has concluded.
President Erhürman and Mr. Christodoulides were welcomed separately by the UN Secretary-General’s Special Representative for Cyprus, Mr. Khassim Diagne, at his official residence in the UN buffer zone, where the meeting was held.
The UN issued a press statement following the meeting which reads as follows:
“The Greek Cypriot and the Turkish Cypriot leaders met today at the Residence of the Special Representative of the Secretary-General in Cyprus, Khassim Diagne. The meeting took place in a positive atmosphere, and they had a fruitful discussion. They exchanged views on substance and on the way forward.
They welcomed the UN Secretary-General’s sustained commitment and engagement on the Cyprus issue. In this connection, they reiterated their continued readiness to supporting his efforts.
They also reviewed progress achieved on trust-building initiatives. They tasked their representatives to pursue their discussions with the aim to finalizing the remaining issues.
Finally, the leaders have agreed to meet again by the end of April with a view to making more specific announcements.”
