President Tatar visited Rukiye Ergin – the wife of Ramazan Ergin who was martyred whilst serving in the Turkish Security Forces during the 1974 Peace Operation in the St Hilarion region.
The President said he was staging the visit to “share the pain” of Mrs Ergin, where he stated:
“We will always remember our martyrs. They will forever be in our thoughts and prayers. We are aware of your suffering and pain which is not easy to endure and we share it with you. Despite our current difficulties, it is our greatest virtue to be able to live independently and freely in this geography. It is a great success that having been through so much persecution and acts of genocide carried out by the Greek-Greek Cypriot duo, the Turkish Cypriot people can look to the future with hope and security under the roof of our state, with the support of Motherland Turkey”.
“We will never forget our martyrs”
Reiterating that our martyrs will never be forgotten, President Tatar also emphasised that new generations should know about our past and the struggle.
In response, Rukiye Ergin expressed her gratitude to the President for his visit and thanked him.
