Evaluating Israel’s attacks on Gaza, President Ersin Tatar said: “TRNC will not be Gaza”

“After the operations carried out by the Israeli army on the Masjid al-Aqsa in the holy month of Ramadan, the attacks on Gaza from air, sea and land continue. While children, women and civilians are being massacred in the Israeli attacks on Gazza that are continuing regardless of it being the holy period for the Muslims, the UN Security Council and other international forces stand by as onlookers just as they did in the period of 1964-74 whilst Greek Cypriots attacked the Turkish Cypriots.  Those, who do nothing but watch this state terror, atrocities and massacres committed by Israel become partners in crime against humanity.

Whilst the world remains a bystander, motherland Turkey, on her own, is contributing the greatest service for humanity, law and justice by showing a reaction and opposing these whilst making every effort for these attacks to cease.  History will record this.

The world remaining a spectator to the atrocities, terror and genocide in Gaza, has once again shown to us the importance of Motherland Turkey’s effective and actual guarantee and the presence of Turkish army in Cyprus.  Considering the recent history in Cyprus and what is happening in Gaza, it is not possible for us to give up Turkey’s guarantees and the Turkish soldiers.   These unfortunate incidents have caused us to understand better now the reason for the demands of the Greek Cypriot- Greece duo and the UN and the EU to ‘remove Turkey’s guarantees, remove the Turkish military from Cyprus, ensure security in Cyprus by the EU’. However, the world should know that: Turkey’s guarantees will not be lifted, the Turkish military will not be withdrawn from Cyprus and the TRNC will not be Gaza.

Whilst I once again strongly condemn Israel’s attacks on Gaza, I send condolences from the Turkish Cypriot people to the Palestinian people.  I wish God’s mercy to our Palestinian brothers who were martyred in these attacks.  May they rest in peace.  Our support and prayers are for the Palestinian people.”
