First Lady Sibel Tatar inaugurates the exhibition titled “Anlamlı Tesadüfler” (Meaningful Coincidences) organised in memory of Turkish Cypriot artist Ayhan Menteş, who passed away in 2016

As part of the April 15 World Art Day events, First Lady Sibel Tatar inaugurated the exhibition held at Eastern Mediterranean University (EMU) Rauf Raif Denktaş Culture and Congress Centre titled “Anlamlı Tesadüfler” (Meaningful Coincidences) organised in memory of Turkish Cypriot artist Ayhan Menteş, who passed away in 2016. The event was held in cooperation with the Eastern Mediterranean University Cyprus studies Centre and the Mediterranean European Art Association.
Addressing the ceremony, Mrs Tatar paid tribute to Ayhan Menteş adding that she is “honoured to inaugurate this meaningful exhibition that has been organised in memory of the artist”. Pointing out that she believes this exhibition, in which 110 pieces of Ayhan Menteş are exhibited, will shed light on the younger generations and provide the opportunity to get to know the artist better, Mrs Tatar thanked everyone who contributed to the organisation of the exhibition.
First Lady Sibel Tatar continued her words as follows: “I would like to thank Esra Plümer, Zehra Şonya, EMU Cyprus Studies Centre Prof. Dr. Netice Yıldız and EMU Rector Prof. Dr. Aykut Hocanın for giving such an opportunity to the Turkish Cypriot community and for his contributions. Artist Ayhan Menteş is remembered not only for his art but also for his contributions to education. As Turkish Cypriots, we commemorate our artist and are proud to display his pieces. On this occasion, I commemorate Ayhan Menteş with respect and love and I congratulate the entire art community on this April 15th World Art Day.”
