First Lady Sibel Tatar visits the women workers at the Gazimağusa Municipal Market in commemoration of March 8 International Women’s Day
First Lady Sibel Tatar commended female workers for their “exceptional traditional handcrafts” being exhibited at Gazimağusa Municipal Market during her visit there as part of commemorations marking March 8 International Women’s Day.
Handcrafts and produce are being exhibited under the Northern Cyprus Women’s Organisation Network that was launched last November by First Lady Sibel Tatar.
The scheme aims to address the problems and issues women in the country face as well as to facilitate social interaction, with 40 out of 42 womens organisations having joined the network.
Mrs Tatar stated during the visit that in accordance with the agreement made last year with Gazimağusa Mayor, İsmail Arter, handcrafts and produce made by women are being exhibited three days a week at the market.
Sibel Tatar also spoke with the stallholders and women, commending their “outstanding work and display of our culture and traditions” through their work, and commemorated March 8 International Women’s Day.
Emphasising the importance of women's labour, the First Lady paid tribute to all the hard working women who, with their sacrifices and determination, make the TRNC a better place to live in.
