Message from President Ersin Tatar on the occasion of 30 August Victory Day

“The Turkish Cypriot people, inspired by the spirit of the 30 August Victory, drew strength from this historic triumph to attain their freedom, independence, and statehood.”

President Tatar, in his written statement, conveyed the following:

"It is with great pride and profound emotion that we commemorate the 103rd anniversary of the 30 August Victory Day, a turning point in our illustrious history and the crowning achievement of the Turkish nation in their struggle for independence and liberty.

Under the visionary leadership of Gazi Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, and through the determination and resolve of our nation, the Great Offensive culminated in a victory that not only liberated Anatolia, but also inspired the Turkish Cypriot people in their own struggle for freedom. This triumph became one of the fundamental pillars of our shared destiny.

The glorious victory of 30 August, 1922, once again affirmed to the entire world that the Turkish nation would never submit to subjugation, and that it was prepared to make the ultimate sacrifice for the preservation of its homeland.

Drawing inspiration from this epic struggle, the Turkish Cypriot people carried forward their own determined resistance, never relinquishing their freedom or independence, never bowing to oppression. In resisting the fascist EOKA mentality with courage and sacrifice, they ultimately attained both their homeland and their sovereign State.

The spirit of August 30 continues to remind us that we must never compromise on our ideals of independence, sovereignty, and national unity.

As the representative of the Turkish world in the eastern Mediterranean, we shall never abandon our State, our sovereignty, or our freedom.

As the Turkish Cypriot people, bound in heart and destiny to Motherland Türkiye, we continue forward with unwavering resolve, upholding our national values, and safeguarding our sovereignty and freedom without concession.

If today we live freely as a sovereign people in our homeland under the roof of our own State, we owe this to our heroic Mujahideen and Turkish soldiers who fell as martyrs while defending these sacred lands shoulder to shoulder, to the steadfast resistance and sacrifices of our people, and to the enduring support of Motherland Türkiye.

We shall never forget — nor allow future generations to forget — the ordeals of our national struggle, the determination, patriotism, and courage we displayed in our darkest days, and the arduous path we traversed to achieve our statehood.

On this meaningful anniversary, I respectfully and gratefully pay tribute to and commemorate the Great Leader Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, together with all our martyrs and veterans, with profound gratitude, reverence, and eternal remembrance.”
