Tünay Mertekci

Tünay Mertekçi was born in Güzelyurt on August 6, 1995. 

He completed his primary and secondary education in Lefkoşa, and graduated in 2017 from the Faculty of Languages, History, and Geography, at the Ankara University, where he earned a degree in Modern Greek Language and Literature. He attained a master’s degree in Press and Broadcasting from Girne American University. 

He worked as a journalist for Kıbrıs, Kıbrıs Postası and Yenidüzen newspapers, and VOICE, a bilingual Turkish-Greek media outlet. He also spent four years at the Press Office of the Republican Turkish Party (CTP).

Mertekçi has received several awards during his career, including the “Young Press Worker Award” from Basın-Sen, as well as two “Interview Awards,” and two “Special Awards for Peace Journalism” from the Cyprus Turkish Journalists Association.

He also served on the boards of Basın-Sen, Yalova Sports Club, the Football Clubs Association, and the Greek Language Association.

Additionally, he attended language programmes at universities in Athens and Thessaloniki.  

Mertekçi is fluent in Greek.

He is married and has a daughter.
