President Ersin Tatar: “Achievements earned on the international stage through our own native resources are of immence value.”
President Ersin Tatar received Celal Arap, founder of the local olive oil brand Ecolive, whose product -- crafted from the “Ada Yerlisi” (Native Island) olive variety developed by the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus Agricultural Research Institute (TAE) and officially registered in Türkiye in 2024 -- won a Silver Award at the prestigious 2025 London International Olive Oil Competition (London IOOC).
Congratulating Mr Arap and Ecolive during the meeting, President Tatar described the international recognition as a "source of national pride and a meaningful step forward in making the voice of the Turkish Cypriot people heard around the world". He emphasised that such accomplishments, built on indigenous resources and local innovation, demonstrate both resilience and excellence.
President Tatar emphasised that the Turkish Cypriot people have always remained steadfast in their commitment to their homeland -- protecting its heritage and enriching its economy through visionary projects. He praised Celal Arap’s success as not only a personal triumph but a symbol of collective progress and international presence.
“This remarkable achievement by a brand rooted in our region brings great pride to our nation,” he stated, reiterating his administration’s commitment to championing local production and ensuring its global recognition.
In response, Celal Arap expressed his deep gratitude, noting his happiness in seeing Turkish Cypriot produced olive oil honoured on the world stage. He described the award as a "reflection of Ecolive’s unwavering dedication to purity, quality, and sustainability". Mr Arap pointed to the "historical significance of the moment", as it "marked the first time the 'Ada Yerlisi' olive brand variety was showcased internationally".
He concluded by reaffirming his commitment to delivering the most natural and authentic products to consumers, while continuing to elevate the standing of Turkish Cypriot agriculture worldwide.
