President Ersin Tatar paid tribute to Perihan Aziz whom he said was a person of “exemplary character” and an “shining example to our women”.
In his speech at the event, President Tatar said he is happy to be participating in “such a beautiful and meaningful night”.
Perihan Aziz is one of the former directors of Turkish Agency Cyprus and at present runs a boutique hotel in Bağlıköy where she was born. She is a supporter of Rural Development Women's Cooperative (4K KOOP) Ltd - established in the Lefke region. President Tatar said that Mrs Aziz is one of the exemplary names of the Turkish Cypriots who “plays a significant role in the promotion of our culture”.
He added that it is also an “honour to prepare a documentary of such a valuable personality and present it to the audience,” adding: “I congratulate KÖDER for their exemplary work”.
The President also referred to December 5, Women’s Rights Day and said it is “important to reiterate, on this meaningful day, our appreciation of the value and role played by women in our society”.
The President said Turkish Cypriot women have always been at the forefront of our society with their “sophistication, modern values and intellect”.
“Women are one step ahead at every stage of society,” the President said. “Our women continue to contribute to the development of our country with their work in every field”.
The President emphasised the “importance of the struggle of the Turkish Cypriot people and Turkish Cypriot women in terms of universality and modernity in bringing the works that will create a bridge between the past and the future to the society”.
“I would like to thank everyone who contributed to the preparation of the Perihan Aziz documentary,” the President said.
