President Ersin Tatar and First Lady Sibel Tatar visit health workers in commemoration of International Women’s Day

President Ersin Tatar and First Lady Sibel Tatar visited female medical staff at the Lefkoşa Dr Burhan Nalbantoğlu State Hospital and the Emergency Situation Hospital in commemoration of International Women’s Day.

In his speech during the visit, President Tatar said that they wanted to commemorate International Women’s Day with all women and especially female healthcare workers fighting at the front line.



The President said that the whole world is struggling with the Covid-19 pandemic, adding that he believes  the difficulties can be overcome through unity and solidarity.


The President acknowledged that there are women who are productive and successful in many fields in our country, and said that there are debates about matters relating to women all over the world  where unfortunately there is violence against women. “This global problem also exists in the TRNC,” President Tatar said. “However, we are an exemplary country in women's issues compared to the whole world and gender equality has been around for years”. 


Stating that as the level of education increases, women play a more active role in the economic field, President Tatar added that women are also participating in politics.


President Tatar said that there should be no distinction between men and women in a strong economy and pointed out that women have shown great sacrifices in the struggle of the Turkish Cypriots at times of hardship and suffering.


President Tatar stated that he appreciates and respects  all women in the TRNC for the hard work they have always undertaken and wished their success to continue.
