President Ersin Tatar and Greek Cypriot leader Nicos Anastasiades attended the launch of an action plan on “ways to ensure women’s full, equal and effective participation” in an eventual settlement process in Cyprus”.

The event,  held on Wednesday at the Nicosia airport located inside the UN Buffer Zone, was hosted by Special Representative and Head of the United Nations Peacekeeping Force in Cyprus (UNFICYP) Colin Stewart.

The President's Special Representative M. Ergün Olgun, Greek Cypriot Negotiator Andreas Mavroyiannis, co-chairs of the Bilateral Technical Committee on Gender Equality that drafted the action plan, Prof. Dr. Nedime Serakıncı, Ms Soula Zavov and other members of the committee attended the organisation.

Following the launch, the representatives of both sides women’s NGO’s who responded positively to the scheme also participated online, as did the representatives of some diplomatic missions.

 

 Presentations were made 

The event began with the speech of Mr Stewart who expressed his gratitude to the two sides in realising the action plan, which continued with separate presentations carried out by committee members and co-chairs Prof. Dr. Nedime Serakıncı and Soula Zavov, with regards to the action plan and works of the committee.

The leaders were informed within the framework of the presentations which stressed that the most important feature of the action plan is to ensure the inclusion of at least 30 per cent women in future delegations to secure  women’s full, equal and effective  participation in an eventual settlement process in Cyprus.
