President Ersin Tatar attended the 5th AGM of the TRNC Association of Independent Driving Schools that was held at the Gönyeli Municipality Conference Hall.
President Tatar emphasised the importance of the actions and goals of the instructors working in driving schools for our country and people, adding: “Driving instructors are the most invaluable resource of people who are learning to drive, and the learner has a responsibility to drive responsibility once he or she has passed the driving test. The safe traffic flow and respect of human life and driving sensibly by respecting the highway code is very important. The role of driving instructors is pivotal in this regard.”
Emphasising that “it is our duty to do everything possible to make our roads safer,” the President said that “this is also related to the development of our country”.
President Tatar added: “You have a significant role in ensuring that we have properly trained drivers in our country, and are undertaking your duties with great sacrifice which I commend. Today, almost everybody possesses a driving licence in our country, after having training to being able to drive vehicles through driving lessons through your schools. There are also many foreign nationals who reside in our country. In consideration of the traffic accidents that have occurred in recent months, I believe that research should be conducted on the driving licences of students – especially those who have come here to study -- who are using these documents to being able to drive here. Legal arrangements should be made on this issue in a disciplined manner. Driving licence inspectors also need to be careful. This is an important industry. The traffic flow on the roads of the TRNC and the safety of people are very important.”
President Tatar commended the “solidarity of driving schools” who have come together under the roof of the association, where he added: “It is paramount that the motorist undergoes the essential training before being allowed to drive on our roads. We have some roads that are in need of being attention from being revamped to having adequate street lighting. Hopefully, the quality of our roads will also be improved.”
President Tatar wished driving schools of the country success despite the economic difficulties. “We will get through this period together,” the President said. “For the existence and future of the TRNC, we will overcome all these difficulties with the support of Motherland Turkey. Turkish Cypriot people will have a future with the support of institutions and organisations. Driving schools also have experience and knowledge from their past. We will do whatever we can to ensure safe driving on the roads and for the development of our country.”
