President Ersin Tatar attended the Nevruz Festival held at the GAU Spectrum International Congress Centre under the auspices of the Azerbaijan State Diaspora Presidency, Azerbaijan-Cyprus Friendship Society and Girne American University.
President Ersin Tatar delivered a speech following the lighting of the Nevruz fire, where he expressed his pleasure for participating in this beautiful event with the invaluable guests who had travelled to the TRNC.
President Tatar said: "The establishment of the organisation of representing Turkish states, who share heartfelt love for the homeland, nation and flag, is strengthening the Turkish world and our relationship with Azerbaijan, with our common culture as well as unity, which continues to grow stronger each day."
“A settlement in Cyprus is possible with the cooperation of two separate sovereign equal States coexisting side-by-side”
Highlighting the support of Türkiye, the President expressed the importance of the sovereign equality and equal international status of the Turkish Cypriot side in being reaffirmed.
"Sustainable peace and stability can be reached through a settlement that is based on the sovereign equality and cooperative relationship of the two States that work together across different fields, which rebuilds trust and confidence in a forward-looking approach," the President said.
President Tatar underlined that the "TRNC is the representative of the Turkish world in the eastern Mediterranean," adding that "we are working to continue the development of our State despite the unjust isolation imposed on Turkish Cypriot people, who are one of the co-owners of this island with inherent rights. It is time for the international community to take a fresh look at the Cyprus issue and to adopt new ideas in order to bring about an end to the status quo. The Greek Cypriot side do not wish to share this island with us on the basis of equality, which it has proven time and time again for the last 54 years."
Expressing that it is their wish to raise their status with the right of self-governance in this geography and with the recognition of their territory, the President noted: “There is a great injustice in terms of recognition of the TRNC. There are two different peoples in Cyprus. We defend our State and our right to sovereignty in these territories. It is our national responsibility to make our voice heard to the international community. The TRNC exists and cannot be denied. Our people will continue to struggle for the rights they are entitled to," President Tatar said.
