In his speech, President Ersin Tatar expressed his satisfaction in being present at the opening of the sports games, congratulated those who contributed to the organization and wished success to the athletes who will participate in the competitions.
Pointing out that there is friendship, brotherhood and solidarity, President Tatar drew attention to the importance of doing sports while studying at universities.
Emphasizing the importance of organizing together among country’s universities and Türkiye’s universities, President Tatar noted that it contributed to the development of brotherhood ties between the two countries.
Stating that foreign students studying at universities also participated in the competitions, President Tatar emphasized that universities contributed to the promotion of TRNC and enabled young people to grow up with universal values.
Referring to the unfair embargoes and restrictions imposed on the Turkish Cypriots, President Tatar talked about the embargoes applied in the field of sports and noted that politics should not be intervened with sports.
Stating that he had just come from the 15th Summit of Heads of State and Government of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation held in Gambia, President Tatar stated that initiatives were taken for Turkish Cypriots to participate in the Islamic Games.
Stating that the message of peace, tranquility and brotherhood was given to the world with the event organized, President Tatar said, “We will take care of our children. Universities raise the bar working together with federations, clubs and athletes. There are 33 sports federations in the country. It is our wish to compete under discipline and to do sports by competing.”
Calling for an end to the ongoing conflicts in Gaza, President Tatar commemorated the Champion Angels who went to Türkiye for volleyball competitions but passed away at the earthquake in Türkiye.
