President Ersin Tatar completes his London contacts and returns to the island

“Our citizens living abroad are not alone, they have the power of our state.”

President Ersin Tatar returned to the island this morning after completing his contacts in London, where he travelled with First Lady Sibel Tatar on Saturday.

President Tatar was welcomed at Ercan Airport by Parliamantary Speaker Zorlu Töre, Minister of Agriculture and Natural Resources Dursun Oğuz and other officials.

Evaluating his London contacts, President Tatar stated that he had intensive contacts with many Turkish Cypriot groups living in England. The President stated that within the framework of his visit, he met with football players, business people, officials of associations, institutions, establishments and council, and visited schools.

President Tatar stated that he held meetings with the Turkish Cypriot community, especially with the House of Lords and various politicians, to make the voice of the Turkish Cypriot people heard, to draw attention to unfair embargoes once again, and to bring the issue of direct flights and direct trade to the agenda.

Expressing his satisfaction with the importance given to football, sports and youth by the Turkish Cypriot community, President Tatar stated that they provided support for the Turkish Cypriot mixed football team to come to the TRNC on the 39th anniversary of the TRNC.

Noting that they met with the public in London and that many important issues were evaluated, President Tatar said he was pleased that especially the TRNC and business people in London improved their cooperation, because increasing investments would add to their strength.

Adding that he had some private meetings with the Turkish Cypriot community and contacts with some parliamentarians, President Tatar noted that his visit to London was very fruitful.

Pointing out that the contacts between the UK and the TRNC will increase after the pandemic, President Tatar expressed that they attach great importance to the expectations of citizens living outside the TRNC.

Expressing his wish for the potential power to be used in the most effective way within the framework of mutual cooperation for the strengthening and development of the TRNC, President Tatar underlined that everything has become easier and closer thanks to the developing technology.

Noting that the love of the country is their greatest wealth, President Tatar emphasised that the Turkish Cypriots living abroad have the power of the state behind them and they are not alone.
