President Ersin Tatar continues his meetings with the youth
President Ersin Tatar met with the students of Near East College and Osman Örek Vocational High School.

President Tatar was accompanied by the Ministry of National Education General Secondary Education Department Director Cengiz Uzun and the Ministry of National Education Vocational Technical Education Department Director Gülşen Hoca, Near East University (NEU) Vice Rector Assoc. Dr. Murat Tüzünkan, Head of Secondary Education Asım İdris and Osman Örek Vocational High School Manager Erdoğan Keskindağ.
President Tatar was met by the Near East College Rector of NEU Prof. Dr. Tamer Şanlıdağ, NEU Vice Rector Assoc. Dr. Murat Tuzunkan and students. President Tatar also met with the students at the Near East College and Osman Örek Vocational High School as part of his visits to schools, and expressed his confidence in the youth, who are the future of the TRNC. President Tatar also answered questions by students and accepted their invitation to play table tennis and football.
“We have been deeply wounded”
President Tatar paid respect to those who died as a result of the devastating earthquakes that occurred in Türkiye on February 6.
“The earthquakes in Türkiye is an unprecedented natural disaster that gave way to the death of tens of thousands of people,” the President said. “May those who died rest in eternal peace, and I wish those who survived who are injured a speedy recovery,” he added. Expressing that “as a people we are devastated and in great sorrow”, President Ersin Tatar said: “The magnitude of deaths and the loss of tens of thousands of people, including the devastating loss of our schoolchildren volleyball teams has opened a very deep wound for all of us.”
“The importance of lifelong education”
Addressing students who will graduate from high school this year, President Tatar added: "As a person who has passed through the educational system and as a person who understands and appreciates the importance and value of these years, I wish you all a healthy and prosperous future that is filled with success. I would like to emphasise the importance of lifelong education."
Drawing attention to the importance of lifelong education in this “communication age”, President Tatar emphasised the importance of maintaining educational, social, artistic activities and sports activities which compliments academic studies. President Tatar stated that education is a whole and should also include developing communication skills, questioning and scrutinising information ascertained, and making use of these skills alongside gaining academic qualifications.
President Tatar: "In order to continue our existence in this country in peace, tranquility and security, we must protect our sovereignty"
Stating that the “Turkish Cypriots have achieved the virtue of establishing our own State following the great struggle of our ancestors and continuing to exist in this geography as the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus”, President Tatar expressed his belief that the “Turkish Cypriot youth are able to evaluate and appreciate more with each passing day the importance of having a State”. Emphasising that in order to continue our existence in this country in peace, prosperity and security, the President added: “We must protect our sovereignty. If there is to be an agreement, it can only be with the cooperative relationship of two States which the Turkish Cypriot Side, which is the position we are conveying in all international platforms, with the support of the Motherland Turkiye.”
Stating that the youth will also have great responsibilities for the formation of a much more prosperous and sustainable structure in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, President Tatar said: "Looking to the future, I wholeheartedly believe that the youth of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus will be able to embrace our epic struggle and to become successful and good people.”
“I can see that light in young people”
“I can see that light wherever I go to, in the eyes of our youth that I meet. When I look into your eyes, I can see that light, that potential, that success, that skill,” President Tatar said. “We trust you. It is our greatest wish that you will have a career as the people who will one day govern the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus as successful individuals in the future with self-confidence. Do not neglect your friendships, solidarity and ties of brotherhood and love for the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus."
Addressing the Osman Örek Vocational High School students, President Tatar stated that they will be trained as engineers and technicians in the future, in a field that responds to the increasing shortage of technical personnel. President Tatar stated that “access to information is becoming ever more in demand. It is our wish to raise well-equipped and skilled educated young people who can access this information and use it”. The President also underlined the importance of following developments in the world, utilising information, developing talents and potential to the maximum, and being open to new pioneering ideas.
Underlining the importance of raising educated people, President Tatar explored with the students as to what they can do in different sectors with regards to future prospects.
