President Ersin Tatar delivers address at the 22nd Ordinary Congress of the National Unity Party (UBP), saying: “UBP has always preserved its unity and solidarity”
President Ersin Tatar attended the 22nd Ordinary Congress of the National Unity Party (UBP) with First Lady Sibel Tatar.

In his speech at the congress on Saturday, held at the Atatürk Sports Centre over the weekend, President Tatar stated that everyone should respect the winner and will of the members taking part in the democratic election for the leadership of the political party.
“It is important to take steps towards the future in unity and solidarity,” the President said.
Emphasising that the process following the UBP Congress should be carried out within the framework of democratic rules and in unity, President Ersin Tatar pointed out that “every step should be taken fairly in the congress”. Stating that the UBP has always maintained its unity and solidarity, President Tatar referred to the period when he was involved in politics in the UBP, and thanked the party members who "have an important place in my election as President of the Republic".
“Federal settlement-based model has been exhausted”
President Tatar noted that the most important issue is the welfare of the country, its people, and a strong TRNC. President Ersin Tatar underlined that a “negotiations for a federal based settlement has been exhausted and has been left behind. We are now working towards an agreement on the basis of a new policy and vision”.
In his speech, President Tatar also touched upon the dangers of the federation model for the Turkish Cypriots. Pointing out the importance of adopting the new policy, which is also supported by Turkey, President Tatar said that sustainable peace and stability in Cyprus could be reached through a fresh new approach, on the basis of a two State settlement that is based on the sovereign equality of the two sides and their equal international status.
“We have left a mark on the past; we have a promise for the future”
President Tatar added: “We have left a mark in the past, and have made a promise for the future. The UBP has great importance in our ideals that we want to realise in the future.” President Tatar underlined the importance of the UBP in the new politics carried out in full unity of thought and action with Turkey on the Cyprus issue, and pointed to the importance of a strong UBP in the steps taken in this regard and in relations with Turkey.

President Tatar underlined that the role of UBP is extremely important in the development of the TRNC. President Tatar wished the UBP Congress success, emphasising the importance of protecting the national cause, expressing that it is his greatest expectation that the country will walk into the future in security with economic prosperity and development.
