President Ersin Tatar meets with Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Türkiye Yasin Ekrem Serim
“TRNC plays key role in maintaining balances in the region”
President Ersin Tatar met with Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Türkiye Yasin Ekrem Serim.
In his speech during the meeting, President Ersin Tatar conveyed his respect and greetings to Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Türkiye and expressed his pleasure to meet with Deputy Foreign Minister Ekrem Serim.
Pointing to the significant developments in the last two years, President Tatar said as a result of the determined stance of President of Republic of Türkiye and the Turkish government as well as the contacts of Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu, we have come a long way in Cyprus cause.
Stating that formal negotiations can only be resumed with the reaffirmation of our international equal status and rights, President Tatar pointed out the importance of the historic call of President of the Republic of Türkiye Recep Tayyip Erdoğan at the UN General Assembly and the admission of the TRNC as an observer member to the Organisation of Turkic States with its constitutional name.
Noting that it is not possible to back off from the two-state policy, President Tatar stressed that the TRNC plays key role in maintaining the balances in the region.
Emphasising the importance of the continuation of Türkiye's guarantorship for the security and welfare of the Turkish Cypriot people, President Tatar said the presence of the Turkish troops on the island as a deterrent force is an indispensable principle for the Turkish Cypriots.
Yasin Ekrem Serim, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Türkiye, said besides bilateral relations, he is visiting the island to discuss international developments within the framework of the Cyprus issue, particularly the admission of the TRNC as an observer member to the Organisation of Turkic States. The TRNC has never been alone and deserves the best, he added.
Turkish Ambassador to Lefkoşa Metin Feyzioğlu, Deputy Director General of Turkish Republic Ministry of Foreign Affairs Ambassador Berk Baran, First Undersecretary of Embassy Özlem Demir, Head of Department of Deputy Ministry of Foreign Affairs Duygu Çelebisoy, Lefkoşa Embassy Second Secretary Onur Tanay, Presidential Undersecretary Okan Donangil and Presidential Press Advisor Aydın Akkurt also attended the meeting
