President Ersin Tatar pays a visit to the Çukurovalılar Solidarity Association
President Ersin Tatar has paid a visit to the Çukurovalılar Solidarity Association in Lefkoşa where he met with officials and members of the organisation.

President Tatar stated that he has recently been awarded an Honorary Doctorate at the University of Çukurova in the Republic of Türkiye.
Pointing out that the Çukurovalılar Solidarity Association has always been in close contact with people from different walks of life ranging from tradesmen, businesspeople, farmers to livestockers and farmers, President Tatar said that the association "continues to work in cooperation with them. Your opinions with regards to how we can address the challenges facing our country and solve issues is therefore very important".
President Tatar emphasised that "non-governmental organisations spreading productive ideas and making proposals on how to tackle numerous issues is indeed a service to our country".
The President also remembered with respect the late Önder Ecesoy, former Deputy Mayor of Lefkoşa Turkish Municipality and other members of the association who passed away and said "may they all rest in eternal peace and may all those who are alive have long and healthy lives".
The President also wished association members and everyone present a blessed month for the Islamic holy month of Ramadan.
Stating that “you emigrated to the Island of Cyprus from Çukurova and settled here after 1974,” President Tatar added: “We have all together worked to strengthen and develop the TRNC together with the full support of and solidarity with Motherland Türkiye.”
Noting that in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus people live in peace, prosperity and security, President Tatar emphasised that Türkiye “will always stand by the TRNC and support the Turkish Cypriot People”.
President Tatar stated that he will be meeting with the UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres on April 5, where he will be putting forward his new vision and position for a settlement that is based on the sovereign equality and equal international status of the Turkish Cypriot People, adding: “I will talk about the need to end the inhuman isolation on our People who continue to face a great injustice.”
President Tatar pointed out that negotiations on a federal basis “have been tried, failed and exhausted,” and said “the Greek Cypriot Side rejected the last and final attempt for a federal settlement in Crans-Montana, which resulted in the collapse of the process in July 2017. Prior to this, the Greek Cypriot Side overwhelmingly rejected the UN Comprehensive Settlement [Annan] Plan in the separately held simultaneous referenda in April 2004, which was accepted by the Turkish Cypriot People. The fact is the Greek Cypriot Side does not have any desire, need or incentive to share power and prosperity with the Turkish Cypriot People on the basis of equality.”
Explaining that he is putting forward a new basis for a two State settlement, President Tatar stated: “The two States in Cyprus, co-existing as good neighbours in a cooperative relationship, is a realistic and sustainable basis for a settlement. We will not venture into the failed and exhausted basis. The Turkish Cypriot People want their inherent rights, namely their sovereign equality and equal international status to be reaffirmed and accepted for new and formal negotiations to be started.”
President Tatar stated that the Greek Cypriot Side was putting forward extreme demands such as “zero-troops, zero guarantees” and the “withdrawal of the Turkish army from the Island of Cyprus”. He said Turkish Cypriots see the continuation of the guarantee of Türkiye and the presence of the Turkish army as “fundamental to the safety and security of the Turkish Cypriot People”.
President Tatar said that a perception has been created that 'Turkish Cypriots are desperate for an agreement', adding: “Nothing is further from the truth. . . the Turkish Cypriot People are not going to succumb to the extreme demands of the Greek Cypriot Side that will enable them to become masters of the island and Turkish Cypriots a minority. We will continue to defend our State, and despite the inhumane isolation we will continue strengthening our TRNC, for our State to stand on her own feet, through various investments in the tourism, higher education, agricultural, industrial and construction sectors."
Stating that the existence of the TRNC was proclaimed to the world with the investments made in tourism, universities and construction, President Tatar said “new practices have been implemented in the agricultural sector following the arrival of fresh water from Türkiye via the 80km long undersea pipeline running to the TRNC, and efforts will continue to increase brand values in all sectors”.
