President Ersin Tatar has paid a visit to the TRNC Civil Defence Organisation and met with its officials.

President Ersin Tatar has paid tribute to the TRNC Civil Defence Organisation during his visit to its headquarters in Lefkoşa, and said it is "one of the distinguished institutions of the country".
Stating that the “team spirit and service provided by the Civil Defence Organisation is appreciated and commended by the public," President Tatar said the organisation has a “pivotal position throughout the country."
President Tatar added: “The Civil Defence Organisation has important objectives, that include responding to natural or man-made disasters that could lead to unwanted consequences, to save lives through preventative measures, preparation, being able to respond effectively when the need arises, and educating the public so as to minimise the threat of fatalities in such situations.”
“For example, the importance of the Civil Defence was evidently seen in the earthquakes that took place in the Republic of Türkiye on February 6, 2023, where the organisation undertook cooperation with other emergency response units following the devastating earthquake. It also has the responsibility to educate the public in what to do in case of a natural disaster such as an earthquake, and how best to secure themselves in a safer environment,” President Tatar said.
The President stated that he stands ready to support the Civil Defence Organisation to address any difficulty it is facing.
“A coordination meeting between different state authorities and emergency response units is important in being prepared for any disaster, and helps to reduce the risks of fatalities. I am ready to take the lead on this,” President Tatar said, adding: “Our Civil Defence is more equipped when compared to the past and has more knowledge and experience.”
President Tatar thanked the Civil Defence Organisation, the Cyprus Turkish Peace Forces (KTBK) Command and the Security Forces Command for their efforts and wished them success in their endeavours to carry out their work successfully.
