President Ersin Tatar has received Ali Murat Başçeri, the new Ambassador of the Republic of Türkiye to Lefkoşa, who presented his credentials.
 
A military ceremony was held at the Presidency following the arrival of the new Ambassador that was also attended by Tahsin Ertuğruloğlu, Minister of Foreign Affairs.
 
Ali Murat Başçeri, who has been appointed as the new Ambassador of the Republic of Türkiye, had previously served as the Turkish Ambassador to Lefkoşa between November 1, 2018 and November 23, 2022.
 
President Tatar, who spoke during his meeting with Ambassador Başçeri, welcomed him back to the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, and paid tribute to his contributions to the country during his previous tenure.
 
“Ambassador Başçeri knows the Turkish Cypriot People and our country well,” President Tatar said, adding: “He has contributed immensely and supported previous projects that has had positive effects on the development of our country and our prosperity. Our position for a settlement in Cyprus, which is based on our inherent rights, namely sovereign equality and equal international status, will be strengthened by your presence. I wish also to express my thanks to former Ambassador Yasin Ekrem Serim for his service in our country.”
 
“The acceptance of our position on sovereign equality is very important and valuable. The strong support of the Republic of Türkiye was highlighted during my recent visit to Ankara which has been reiterated again prior to heading to Geneva to participate in the informal meeting on Cyprus in a broader format, which is being hosted by the UN Secretary-General on 17 and 18 March,” President Tatar said.
 
President Tatar concluded his speech by wishing Ambassador Başçeri success in office.
 
Ambassador Başçeri emphasised that he is “pleased and honoured to once again represent the Republic of Türkiye in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus.” The Ambassador added that he will work arduously to further strengthen the exceptional relations between the two countries.
