President Ersin Tatar, in a meeting held with Attorney General Sarper Altıncık and Acting Police Chief Ali Adalıer, expressed grave concern over a recent publication targeting the late Founding President Rauf Raif Denktaş. He noted that the content in question has deeply disturbed the public conscience and provoked widespread indignation.
Highlighting the author’s prior record of publishing inflammatory and insulting material, President Tatar remarked: “There is a clear public expectation for this individual to be brought to justice. The attack directed at our Founding President is, in essence, an assault on our national identity, our spiritual values, and revered institutions such as the TMT.”
President Tatar added that there is growing abuse of social media platforms -- where under the pretence of freedom of expression and pluralism -- vicious and degrading language is increasingly prevalent. He stated that preparations are underway to review and amend existing laws in order to better address such offenses.
Calling for urgent legal measures, President Tatar urged that all necessary steps be taken without delay to initiate legal proceedings against the author of the contentious book.
Attorney General Sarper Altıncık, for his part, acknowledged that the author has a history of controversial publications. He confirmed that the police has undertaken investigative efforts and that the Police General Directorate is actively examining the matter.
Given the author’s dual nationality, Altıncık stated that once the relevant legal groundwork has been laid, the necessary coordination will be pursued with the competent authorities of the Republic of Türkiye to ensure that justice is served.
