President Ersin Tatar received the Turkish Mukhtars Federation President Ramazan Özünal, TRNC Mukhtars’ Association President Akay Darbaz and their accompanying delegation.  The visit was organised by the Office of the Presidency.   

Pointing out the ‘excellent’ relations between Turkey and the TRNC, President Tatar added that the “mukhtars hold important positions in society because they are representative of people.” The President said he was pleased to welcome officials and members of the Turkish Mukhtars Federation, which has 38,000 members.

 

 

“WE WILL NEVER ALLOW THE STRONG RELATIONS BETWEEN OUR TWO COUNTRIES TO BE DAMAGED”

 

Emphasising that the ties between the two countries and their unity are important which emanates from history,  President Tatar added that "We will never allow these ties to be damaged". He expressed that the Ottomans conquered Cyprus, where 80,000 people were martyred during this period. He said the Ottomans had left “important landmarks and monuments and structures in Cyprus”.

 

“Today, the Turkish Cypriot people have established their own State as one of the two co-owners and peoples in Cyprus because of the historical developments and circumstances. We are as sovereign and as equal.  This is the success of the Turkish Cypriot people and Turkey. It is a success of Turkish nation,” President Tatar said.  



Expressing that “no one should underestimate these achievements,” the President said that “as the President, I am defending the sovereignty and State of the Turkish Cypriot people wberever I go”.  Stating that they represent the sovereignty of the Turkish Cypriot people and the strengthening of the TRNC, the President sent his “heartfelt greetings to the Turkish nation”.

 

 

“TO PASS A BEAUTIFUL HOMELAND ON FUTURE GENERATIONS…”

 

Tatar said: "Our responsibility is to continue to work in cooperation from state to state in order to pass a beautiful homeland to future generations."


 

 

DARBAZ  THANKS THE PRESIDENT FOR HIS SUPPORT

 

In his statement during the visit, President of the Mukhtars’ Association Akay Darbaz thanked President Tatar for his help and support, as well as for the organisation of the meeting.

“We place great importance on the organisation of such meetings because it enables us to get to know one another and to expand our relations and work together,” Darbaz said. “We look forward to continuing these meetings and dialogue. I also commemorate Mukhtars Day”.

 

ÖZÜNAL: “WE ARE INSEPARABLE ENTITIES”

 

President of Turkish Mukhtars Federation Ramazan Özünal said: “We are honoured to be at the TRNC Presidency with President Tatar. The Turkish Cypriot people are an inseparable part of the great Tyrkish nation and no one can harm this or separate us.”

 

Expressing that "the Turkish Cypriot people made the right decision by electing Mr Tatar as President of the TRNC," Özünal expressed his belief that President Tatar will “serve the Turkish Cypriot people and the country well with his forward-looking and new vision”.

“The Republic of Turkey will always stand by and support the Turkish Cypriot people whatever the condition,” Özünal said.
