President Ersin Tatar visits the construction site of the new Presidential and Parliamentary General Assembly Complex in Lefkoşa

President Ersin Tatar paid a visit to the building site of the new Presidential and Parliamentary General Assembly Complex in Lefkoşa where he was briefed about the ongoing work there by officials of the construction firm.
The President was accompanied by the Ambassador of the Republic of Türkiye to Lefkoşa, Metin Feyzioğlu, Development and Economic Cooperation Office (KEİ) Coordinator Erol Öz, Presidential Undersecretary Okan Donangil, Department Director of the Presidency Osman Çağakan, Presidential Press and Public Relations Director Turgut Vehbi and Local Administration Advisor to the President, İlker Edip.

Making a statement following the briefing, President Tatar stated that he is paying a visit to the complex where construction is continuing for the new complex, which includes the new Presidential building complex, the Parliamentary Assembly complex and a park the size of which is near to 400 donums.

“This is a very significant project for the TRNC,” President Tatar said. “The legislature and executive will be together. There will be important work carried out for the TRNC, and the magnitude of the area that includes a park and social areas will accommodate people who wish to socialise through different activities and recreational areas.”

President Tatar thanked Ambassador Feyzioğlu for monitoring the construction work on behalf of the Republic of Türkiye and issuing the necessary instructions, and also thanked the contractor firm for their work.

Pointing out that the construction work has “emerged as a great project” and “symbol on the way to recognition”, President Tatar stated that an “important message is being given to the world in terms of the will, independence and self-governance ability of the Turkish Cypriot People”.

“The complex will be home to the core functioning of the State, and the very heart of lawmaking, whilst it will create new areas for people to socialise.  I commend the authorities who approved the construction of this very important complex that will indeed be of significant benefit to the TRNC,” President Tatar said.

Emphasising that his visit to the construction site of the complex is “meaningful as it coincides with the anniversary of when the Grand National Assembly of the Republic of Türkiye was founded 104 years ago on April 23”, President Tatar added: “I am visiting the complex on this very important anniversary, on April 23, National Sovereignty and Children’s Day, which was gifted to children as a public holiday by Mustafa Kemal Atatürk. I have today walked around the construction site of the new Presidential complex and that of the Parliamentary General Assembly, where the will of the people will be represented, where important decisions will be made and meetings held, for the benefit of the TRNC.”

President Tatar stated that construction work has been “intensified” as there is an objective to complete the construction of the complex by November 15, 2024, on the 41st anniversary of the proclamation of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus.
