President Tatar: "Necessary legal regulations will be made"
President Tatar evaluates the decision of the Constitutional Court
President Ersin Tatar evaluated the decision of the Constitutional Court to annul the Religious Affairs Commission's authorization to open a course for hafiz in the EU Clause of Article 8B, Paragraph 2 of the Religious Affairs Amendment Law. The President announced that the necessary legal regulations will be made and the courses will be continued.
The statement of the President is as follows;
“I would like to emphasize that the TRNC Constitution provides every citizen with the right to learn their religious beliefs and scriptures and the freedom to worship in accordance with their own beliefs. Accordingly, religious education is not against the Constitution and the Presidency of Religious Affairs is the institution of the state operating in religious fields. It is necessary to pay attention to these realities. It is not right to create the perception that the Presidency of Religious Affairs is not a governmental institution and to implicate it.
After this decision of the Constitutional Court, my biggest expectation is to ensure the continuation of the courses by making the necessary legal regulations immediately. Accordingly, the courses should be organized by the Presidency of Religious Affairs and then the Ministry of National Education and Culture should also inspect these courses and the documents to be given after the course should be approved. I will also follow that these necessary legal regulations are made as soon as possible.
I would like to reiterate that we will continue to protect our religious beliefs in our homeland since 1571. In this these territories, neither will our religious beliefs be destroyed, nor will the voice of azaan be silent.”
