President Tatar: "Our strengthened relationship with the Republic of Turkey and our new policy has created a favourable climate for investment

President Tatar received officials of the Cyprus Turkish Businessmen's Association (İŞAD), Turkish Enterprize and Business Confederation (TÜRKONFED) and TÜRKONFED International members – headed by Enver Mamülcüoğlu.

President Tatar said that many Turkish and international investors as well as Turkish Cypriots living abroad are coming to the TRNC to invest in many different fields.   He said the even though small in size, the TRNC economy is continuing to develop. The President said he is “ready to strengthen mutual relations with TÜRKOFED” and to “work together on exploring the sort of investments that can be carried out” and he called for their “members to invest in the TRNC to create employment”.

“OUR STRENGTHENED RELATIONS WITH THE REPUBLIC OF TURKEY AND NEW POLICY HAS INCREASED INVESTMENTS"

The President said that, following his election as the President and the subsequent strengthening of relations with the Republic of Turkey, they are  heading towards a negotiations process on “solid  ground based on two States”.

“The TRNC will live on. This has been approved by the Turkish Cypriot people, and this is also the policy we are developing together with Turkey,” the President said.

The President emphasised that the understanding of the Greek Cypriot side of a federation is for a single sovereignty, where there is a structure that allows for the majority to govern the minority, which has the danger of Turkish Cypriots being assimilating and annihilated over time.

“It is for this reason that the new policy of the Turkish Cypriot side is for the basis of an agreement to be on sovereign equality, where there are two States that coexist side-by-side in a cooperative relationship, and we have managed to bring this to the agenda of the whole world,” he said.

Pointing out the importance of motherland Turkey, who is also the guarantor country and the leader in the region, supporting this policy in full the President added that "all these have turned our investment climate in our favour and investments have increased".

"WE SHALL BE OPENING MARAŞ FOR HABITATION WITHIN INTERNATIONAL LEGAL FRAME.. THERE WILL BE GREAT ACTIVITIES IN THE TRNC ECONOMY"

The President stated that a proactive political step has been taken in Eastern Mediterranean with the opening of Maraş adding “Maraş is very valuable in itself. The land there belongs to our forefathers, the Vakifs.  Everything is registered, documented."  Explaining that some of the properties were given to foreigners by the British authorities and that the Greek Cypriot side has used this in their own favour, President Tatar said that the area will be open for habitation under the international legal frame and that there will be a great deal of activities in Maraş and the economy of TRNC.
