President Tatar receives children with Down Syndrome

President Ersin Tatar and First Lady Sibel Tatar celebrated March 21, World Down Syndrome Day.

The Tatars received children with Down syndrome from Lefkoşa Special Education and Algım Special Needs schools, together with their teachers, at the Office of the Presidency on Friday.


President Tatar commended the teachers and the families of the children “who are doing everything to best prepare the children with Down syndrome for their future lives and the world”.

“I am very touched by the love and joy displayed by the children,” the President said. “These children are our children. They are a little different however they are very loving and cheerful. Our people attribute great importance to them,” he added.


Emphasising that he attaches great importance to the availability of special attention and education to prepare them as competent and influential people for all kinds of duties in the society, President Tatar said that the Turkish Cypriot people are a people who embrace their loved ones and that they prepare our different children for the society with intense interest.


Underlining that they are ready to provide every kind of support for children with Down syndrome, the President said  “our children are always embraced with love and the TRNC state is taking care of them. . . everyone is working to prepare them for a prosperous future as productive individuals in different careers as professionals without any discrimination.” 

President Tatar and First Lady Sibel Tatar handed the children presents, which was reciprocated by the children with presents they had brought to the couple.
