President Tatar: "The people of Güzelyurt need not worry at all ... Bringing Güzelyurt to the agenda at the negotiating table is out of the question”

President Ersin Tatar received the Veteran Baf Solidarity Association chairman, Türkay Tokel and Administrative Board members.

Association President Türkay Tokel expressed support for the two State solution model and stated that before the five plus UN informal meeting to be held in Geneva, they want to convey to President Tatar the opinions of the people of Güzelyurt about not giving the town as part of an overall settlement.



Mr Tokel also shared with President Tatar information about the monument planned to be built in Güzelyurt to commemorate the Baf Martyrs.


President Tatar said that he has “always been with Güzelyurt,"  and emphasised that “Güzelyurt is one of the most important parts of the TRNC. . .we support the development of  Güzelyurt with new investments”.

President Tatar added:  “The people of  Güzelyurt need not worry. Bringing Güzelyurt to the agenda at the negotiating table is out of the question.  Times have changed. The TRNC is more rooted and continues to get stronger. ”

President Tatar pointed out the importance of Güzelyurt for the TRNC, both strategically and in the richness of local water resources.

Stating that the completion of the Monument project in Güzelyurt  in memory of our martyrs is our debt to our martyrs , President Tatar stated that he will do whatever he can to help complete the construction of the monument  and he expressed his wish that the souls of the martyrs rest in peace.



President Tatar expressed that the Turkish Cypriot side is telling the whole world that we want a settlement on the basis of two sovereign States, coexisting side-by-side, with equal international status and underlined that this policy is fully supported by the Republic of Turkey. The President reiterated that the sovereignty of Turkish Cypriots is important in a settlement.

Referring to the pandemic process, President Tatar stated that he thought the process was well managed in the TRNC compared to the difficulties experienced due to the pandemic all over the world, and stated that the contribution of the former Minister of Health, Ali Pilli, to the pandemic process was of significant value and he thanked him.
