The two leaders will meet at the New Year’s reception to be hosted by the newly appointed Chief of Mission of the UN Peacekeeping Force in Cyprus, Colin Stewart
Presidential Statement on the invitation to the UN New Year’s Reception:
The ‘end-of-year reception,’ which is organised by the United Nations annually, will this year be held on December 14, 2021. Our President was invited to this reception with an official letter sent by the UN Peacekeeping Mission Chief on November 25 and in the same letter, it was stated that the Greek Cypriot leader Nicos Anastasiades was also invited. Considering the increasing number of new Covid-19 cases on both sides in recent weeks, our President stated that he would attend this reception, where the participation would be kept at a minimum, if epidemiological data allowed the organisation to be held, within the framework of the conditions introduced due to the pandemic. The reception will be hosted by Colin Stewart, newly appointed Chief of Mission of the UN Peacekeeping Force.
Our President will also receive Colin Stewart, who has been appointed to replace Elizabeth Spehar, whose term in office ended on December 10.
